Top reasons to hire an article writer

?

Article writing services, especially those compatible to SEO are very popular these days. The process of article marketing and article submissions these days provide very low-cost and high-results website marketing opportunities over the internet. Hence, many companies are looking forward to hiring an instant article writer. What is the precise reason to hire an article writer? Is it really necessary to hire one?

Article marketing can be referred to as content marketing at its best. It is also true that the process is simple but time consuming. It is practically not possible to write about 10 -100 articles on your own to create your online presence. Additionally, if you are not a strong writer, you might require spending a lot of time in this regard.

The best thing to do here is to outsource the task to a firm.

You can even hire an article writer to get content based on your specific marketing requirements. Hiring a cheap article writer will save you good amount of money. The task is not difficult. You just need to research on the internet in order to make sure you hire the best. Look for some of the past assignments done by the writer. This will give you an idea on the kinds of assignments undertaken by the article writer and how these fit into your specific requirements.

Do not forget to mention your budget when looking for a writer. Using your favourite search engine will help you get the best plans. Just type in the requisite keywords and start searching. Ask a few questions about the experience and past assignments from the article writer prior to actually investing your hard earned money on a writer?s services.

Look specifically for seo article writer if your motive is to generate quality traffic for your website.

By Michael Wells Jr.?

Auto Insurance Coverage:? Purchase as much liability coverage as you can.? Also, purchase as much underinsured coverage as you can because there is a greater risk that someone with inadequate coverage will hit you.

Home Owner?s Policy:? Purchase as much liability coverage as possible.? Also, purchase an umbrella policy because you can get a lot of coverage ($1 million to $2 million) for a modest amount of money.

Wills: If you die without a will, the State of North Carolina writes you one.? It is cheaper and easier to administer an estate where there is a will.

Durable Powers of Attorney:? If you are incapacitated, it allows you to name someone to pay bills and handle business or property transactions for you.? Your spouse may not be able to make certain financial decisions for you without this document.

Living Wills and Health Care Powers of Attorney:? A living will is a legal document in which you direct whether life prolonging medical procedures will be taken in certain circumstances.? A health care power of attorney is a legal document in which you appoint another person or persons who can consent to or refuse medical or mental health treatment if a physician or eligible psychologist determines you are unable to make or communicate these decisions for yourself.

Warranties about a purchase you are about to make:? The promise needs to be in writing to be worth anything.? Use your best judgment as to whether the warranty is worth the price.

How to avoid many common disputes with service people with whom you deal (home repair, construction, auto repair and others):? Have a clear understanding about the scope of the work and the price. Make sure you have a written contract.?

What to do if you are in a wreck:? Call the police.? Take pictures; get the other person?s information; be careful about what you say.

Contracts to buy real estate/ refinancing your mortgage: Get it in writing.? Make sure your closing costs do not exceed your savings; generally 1 percent less or more is worth refinancing.

Co-signing on a debt:? Do not do it.? If the other person cannot pay, you are liable.?

'Punk'd': The Wanted, Demi Lovato Tease New Season

'We got pulled over by the police ...,' the Wanted's Tom Parker tells MTV News about group's appearance on the show.
By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway

The new season of "Punk'd," which kicks off Thursday (March 29) at 10 p.m. ET/PT, might be the most star-studded to date. Justin Bieber punks the likes of Taylor Swift and Rob Dyrdek, and Miley Cyrus had some fun at the expense of her beau, Liam Hemsworth, and Khloe Kardashian, just to name a few.

Those celebs aren't the only ones getting the wool pulled over their eyes. When MTV News caught up with boy band The Wanted in Las Vegas during spring break, they opened up about getting Punk'd by someone in their band. And while they kept the details of the practical joke slim, the excitement for it was clear.

"So we were outside 'Chelsea Lately' and there was a kid that came up to us, and then when we came out [after going in], she went missing," group member Tom Parker recalled. "And then we got pulled over by the police."

His bandmate Jay McGuiness was the man behind the prank and he knew exactly what would scare his buddies. "Your police in the U.S. are notoriously aggressive, so we were all 'Yes sir, yes sir, OK, whatever you say.' I was involved. I knew for about a week before and I was talking to their team — who were amazing — trying to work out what would scare them. And we know your police are much scarier than ours," he said. "I thought it was hilarious."

Much like the Wanted's internal prank, Demi Lovato got hers from her close friends in the group All Time Low. "My two friends, Jack [Gaskarth] and Alex [Barakat], they Punk'd me," she said. The guys got some help from Nick Cannon, and while she kept the details vague, she did share this with us: "I'm a sucker for, like, ghosts and aliens and stuff like that, so they got me pretty good."

Cannon, Lucy Hale, Mac Miller, Heather Morris, Bieber, Cyrus, Kellan Lutz, Bam Margera, Hayden Panettiere, "Punk'd" alumnus Dax Shepard and Tyler, the Creator have all been tapped as celebrity hosts for the new season of "Punk'd."

Don't miss the premiere of "Punk'd" tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, followed by the series premiere of "The Pauly D Project"! For continuing "Punk'd" and "Pauly" coverage, be sure to check in with MTV's Remote Control blog.

South Bend Indiana Injury Lawyer | Accident Law South Bend Indiana

Ten Important Questions to Ask Your South Bend Indiana Personal Injury Attorney

Before you choose a accident lawyer, get the facts. Find out everything you can about the lawyer?s qualifications, previous experience, and business practices.

For your convenience, BLACKBURN & GREEN has prepared the following list of ten questions you should ask before hiring a personal injury law firm, Don?t assume all lawyers are the same. Get the facts, ask questions, and make an informed decision.

1. Do you limit your practice to personal injury and wrongful death?

YES.

Just as there are different kinds of doctors, there are different kinds of law firms. Some are general practitioners, while others limit their practice to just one field ? such as personal injury and wrongful death, divorce, tax law, bankruptcy, criminal, and so on.

At BLACKBURN & GREEN, we limit our South Bend IN legal practice to just personal injury and wrongful death law. By concentrating our efforts on just one area, we?re able to devote more time, energy, and experience to each client.

2. Did every partner graduate with honors?

YES.

In order to graduate with honors from law school, it takes desire, discipline and dedication. When you find an attorney who graduated from law school with honors, you can be assured that he or she has worked hard to obtain the knowledge and proven discipline to professionally handle your case.

Tom Blackburn and R.T. Green both graduated with honors from Indiana University School of Law, one of the most prestigious law schools in the Midwest.

3. How many years of experience do you have?

OVER 60.

When it comes to South Bend IN personal injury and wrongful death law, there?s no substitute for experience. Together, Tom Blackburn and R.T. Green have over 60 years of legal experience and have represented victims throughout the Midwest, California, Colorado, Florida, New York, North Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Before founding their own personal injury law firm, each gained valuable experience by serving in various legal capacities. Those positions include deputy prosecuting attorney, circuit court judge, insurance company defense lawyer, and general practitioner.

4. Do you have jury trial experience?

YES.

A South Bend Indiana attorney with a solid reputation in court has more clout with insurance companies. That?s because insurance companies know which lawyers are willing to go to trial and which ones aren?t, and they use that information in deciding how to handle your case. A lawyer who has trial experience is more likely to be offered a fair settlement sooner by the insurer. A lawyer who has never been to court, on the other hand, may get a lower offer.

Over the years, South Bend IN Attorneys Thomas Blackburn and R.T. Green have tried many jury cases ? both large and small ? for their clients. In compliance with the Indiana Rules for Professional Conduct, they are happy to provide you with the number and size of jury verdict awards. Simply call toll-free 1-800-444-1112 and request a free appointment to discuss our jury trial experience and verdicts.

5. Do you charge a flat fee or an increasing fee?

FLAT FEE.

There is a difference. Law Firms who charge a flat fee earn a percentage of your total recovery amount- usually 33-1/3%. This percentage stays the same regardless of whether the case is decided by settlement, mediation, trial, or appeal. Lawyers who charge an increasing fee, however, can raise their percentage to as much as 45% if the case goes to trial, and as much as 50% if it?s won by appeal.

The South Bend IN Lawyers at BLACKBURN & GREEN always charge a flat fee of 33-1/3%, even if your case goes to trial or appeal. We?ll stand by you as long as it takes to get a fair settlement or verdict, and remember, you don?t pay any attorney fee unless we make a recovery for you.

6. Do you make house calls and hospital visits?

YES.

Since day one, personal services has been the foundation of BLACKBURN & GREEN. We don?t just say we care about you; we show it by making personal visits to your hospital or home ? free of charge. When you?ve been injured or lost a loved one in an accident, it may be difficult or even impossible for you to drive to a lawyer?s office. Caring attorneys understand this, and they?re willing to make house calls and hospital visits for your convenience. If a lawyer will not come to you, it?s a pretty good indication of the kind of service you?ll receive from that firm.

7. Do you use professional investigators and accident reconstruction experts?

YES.

To secure evidence for your case, a lawyer will need to conduct an investigation. This might involve photographing or videotaping the accident scene, talking to eyewitnesses, or even reconstructing the accident. At BLACKBURN & GREEN, we?ve built up a strong network of professional investigators, accident reconstructionists, and other industry experts to help us in preparing your case. We even use computer simulations of accidents to help strengthen a case when necessary.

8. Does your firm have a legal malpractice insurance coverage?

YES.

At BLACKBURN & GREEN, we strive for an outstanding reputation. We carry full legal malpractice insurance coverage to protect your rights.

You have the right to know whether the lawyer you?re considering (or any lawyer at that firm) has ever committed legal malpractice. Lawyers are human beings, after all, who can make mistakes. But as legal professionals, they also have a responsibility to protect your rights and financial interests. For that reason, all attorneys should carry legal malpractice insurance. Make sure the lawyer and law firm you choose is protected against legal malpractice. Not all of them are.

9. Do you advance pre-litigation expenses for all clients?

YES.

In the course of preparing your case, a lawyer will incur certain expenses that are separate from attorney fees. These include the cost of hiring professional investigators, obtaining medical records and reports, preparing diagrams, and so forth. A financially sound law firm will always pay these expenses in advance for you, helping you to avoid pre- litigation out-of-pocket charges before your case is decided.

With BLACKBURN & GREEN, you?ll never be expected to pay pre-litigation expenses upfront. We advance all pre-litigation out-of-pocket expenses for you.

10. What are your professional affiliations?

Lawyers can belong to a variety of local, state, and national associations to help them stay abreast of changes in the law. Is the lawyer you?re considering a member of these prestigious organizations?

* YES
* Indiana Trial Lawyers Association

* American Bar Association

Sports Fitness: Fun Way to be Healthy | Votenc Mental Health

When you talk about sports fitness, what comes first in your mind? It is, basically, the different sports activities, right? This is because sports fitness has always been referred to as the sports itself.

Generally, sports entail physical activities that are usually carried out for some ?recreational? functions such as self-satisfaction, entertainment, competition, etc. It uses physical activity that is why most fitness experts regard sports as one way of staying fit and healthy. It can also be considered as one way of physical fitness; the only difference is that sports fitness is more inclined to the development of skill or ability.

However, like physical fitness, sports fitness is also capable of toning down the body fats of a person. Because of its rigid and strict health program, a sports enthusiast is able to maintain a well-balanced lifestyle in order to cope up with the strenuous demands of sports.

In sports, people should learn how to value their health. Otherwise, they can never endure the kind of energy that is required when playing sports activities.

Therefore, for people whoa re into sports fitness, here are some tips that you could use in order to stay healthy and be active on whatever sports you want to pursue:

1. Drinks lots of water

Humans can survive days, or even months without food, but they can never last a day without water.

Water is, indeed, the most important element needed by the body. Excessive perspiration, without any means of replenishing the lost fluids will result to serious health problems, and even death.

Therefore, for people who are into strenuous exercises and trainings, it is best to always drink lots of water.

However, for sports enthusiasts, water may not be enough to replace the kind of fluid lost. Hence, it would be better if they would have sports drinks instead. Aside from the fluid, sports drinks have tow additional important ingredients needed by a person who is into sports fitness: carbohydrates and electrolytes.

Electrolytes are usually lost during strenuous physical activity, and this can only be replaced through sports drinks. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are also needed by the body during rigid workouts to provide more energy so that the body can cope up to the demands of the activity.

2. More veggies!

People who are into sports fitness require more intakes of vegetables and fruits. This is because the body is craving for more vitamins and mineral supplements. It makes the body stronger and healthier enabling it to cope up with demands of the activity.

3. Calcium intake

People who are into sports fitness should have calcium present on their diet. This is to provide stronger bones to the body.

Since the body is more exposed to greater physical activities, it is important to have stronger bones in order to avoid fractures or certain bone diseases like ?osteoporosis.?

Calcium can be found in different vitamin and mineral supplements. They are also abundant in foods like sardines, tofu, dairy products, etc.

4. Warm exercises are always important before any kind of strenuous activities.

This kind of activity is needed in order not to strain the body. Hence, before playing the sports that you have always love, it is best to do some warm-up exercises first.

Indeed, engaging into sports activities is one great way of being physically fit. The best thing about it is that in sports, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Economist offers hope: Conditions improving | The Business Times

Article date: Mar 28 2012

Phil Castle,?The Business Times

Anirban Basu

Anirban Basu offers a measure of hope to a beleaguered construction industry in Western Colorado: ?We?re seeing some significant improvement.?

As chief economist for Associated Builders and Contractors, a national trade association, Basu monitors a construction sector he says has only just begun to recover three years after the official end to the recession. But job gains and economic growth should help accelerate that recovery.

Basu counts the Western Slope among those regions where construction contractors could enjoy an additional advantage related to energy development.

Basu discussed his outlook for the construction industry on the national and regional levels at a presentation hosted by the Western Colorado Chapter of ABC at the Fruita Recreation Center.

In a separate telephone interview with the Business Times, Basu recounted the effects of the recession on the construction industry, detailed the nascent recovery since then and outlined his expectations for the next two years.

The construction industry was hit harder than any other sector during the recession, losing 2 million jobs nationwide, Basu says.

?He blamed not only the magnitude, but also the progression and nature, of the recession. A bubble in residential and commercial construction burst, followed by a wave of defaults in subprime mortgages. A financial crisis ensued that severely limited access to the capital upon which construction depends.

?Construction was just devastated,? Basu says.

After several years of decline, the construction industry has stabilized and? finally started to recover, Basu says. The recovery has been modest so far, though, with an increase of only about 65,000 jobs? nationwide over the past year.

For February, the national unemployment rate for the construction industry dropped six-tenths, but still stands at 17.1 percent.

Conditions in the construction industry typically lag one to two years behind the general economy. Three years into the recovery, then, the sector should start realizing improvement, Basu says. Growing momentum in job and economic growth eventually will accelerate that improvement, he says. ?The data do not lie. The economy is on the move.?

As consumers spend more and businesses expand operations to keep pace with growing demand for products and services, increased commercial construction activity will follow, he says.

Credit standards have begun to loosen somewhat, making more financing available for construction projects, he adds.

Gradual progress is expected in 2012 as increases in privately funded construction offset declines in publically financed construction, Basu says. While large construction firms benefited most from infrastructure projects funded by federal stimulus dollars, smaller firms since have fared better in winning contractors for privately funded projects, he adds.

The ABC Construction Backlog Indicator (CBI), a measure of construction activity Basu devised, declined in the fourth quarter of 2011, but remains well ahead of the same span in 2010.

The CBI measures the amount of nonresidential construction work under contract to be completed in the near future. A backlog of more than 8 months is statistically connection with increases in construction spending, while a backlog of less than eight months is associated with decreased spending.

For the fourth quarter of 2011, the CBI shortened from 8.1 months to 7.8 months, but remains almost 11 percent longer than the fourth quarter of 2010. The CBI for the western portion of the United States that includes Colorado lengthened to 6.1 months.

Basu tempers his outlook for growth in the construction industry nationally with a warning about several factors that could hamper that growth, among them concerns about the Middle East and higher oil prices and growing national debt.

Federal government policies could either help or hinder the construction sector depending on what?s implemented, he adds.

Just as an improving national economy will bolster construction, improving state and regional economies will benefit Western Colorado contractors, Basu says.

Energy development also plays a role, he says. Some of the areas of the United States with the strongest economies and most pronounced growth in construction occur where energy activity has increased, including Louisiana, Oklahoma and North Dakota. ?That?s not accidental, that?s natural resources.?

The same situation could occur in Western Colorado if exploration and production increase, he says.

'The Cubist's Cubist:' Juan Gris honored with Google doodle (+video)

On the 125th anniversary of his birth, Spanish artist Juan Gris is honored with a Cubist Google doodle.

Juan Gris, born Jos? Victoriano Carmelo Carlos Gonz?lez-P?rez, is honored with today?s Google doodle on the 125th anniversary of his birth in Madrid, Spain. The doodle highlights his work in the Cubist art movement, and though his name is not as widely known as other cubists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, some say Mr. Gris is a Cubist in its purist form.

?Gris - as can be seen in a drawing like ?Still Life: Teapot and Glass? - carried the idea of the Cubists to a level of completeness and finish they hadn't originally attempted,? the Monitor reported in 1988, noting that Cubist trailblazers like Picasso and Braque may have delighted in the complexity Gris brought to his work.

Gris?s elementary level of art training upon his arrival in France in 1906 meant he did not have to go through the process of ?unlearning? a more classic technique, reports TIME magazine, who referred to Gris as ?The Cubist?s Cubist? in a 1956 article. Instead, Gris was able to dive directly into the cubist style. In fact, he was so usurped in the cubist approach that after finally trying his hand at a more traditional portrait he reportedly wrote a friend saying he always believed classical technique would be far more difficult, according to TIME.

Gris said he never consciously became a Cubist. In response to a 1925 questionnaire by the French Bulletin of the Arts, published in the book Theories of Modern Art, he said ?by dint of working along certain lines, [I was] classed as such. I have never thought about its causes and its character like someone outside the movement who has meditated on it before adopting it,? said Gris.

Today?s doodle incorporates a number of Gris?s art work, including ?The Book of Music,? ?Violen and Glass 1,? ?Bol et Livre,? and ?Guitar with Clarinet.?? The doodle art ?[resonates] with harmonious hues, balance and counterbalance, [and] interlocking tone and pattern,? writes the Washington Post.

Civil War relic thief engaged in 'heartbreaking' destruction

Courtesy of Petersburg National Battlefield

Buckets of Civil War bullets seized by the government after a search at John J. Santo's home. Scientific archeological data is lost forever because the exact location of the finds was not recorded.

By Becky Bratu, msnbc.com

A?Virginia man convicted of taking more than 9,000 artifacts from a Civil War battlefield was engaged in "heartbreaking" destruction of American history, experts say.

John Jeffrey Santo, 52, has been sentenced to 366 days in prison and must also pay $7,346 restitution to the Petersburg National Battlefield for damage caused by his excavations, according to the decision handed down Wednesday by U.S. District Court Judge James Spencer.

Santo, who is unemployed and a native of Pennsylvania, used a metal detector and sometimes his dog to look for Civil War-era artifacts that he could collect and sell.

Relic hunting is like ripping a page from a book, Randy Jones, spokesman for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, told msnbc.com. Part of an an artifact's true value comes from the context it is discovered in, he explained.

"It happens more than we know about," James Blankenship, a historian at the Petersburg National Battlefield, told msnbc.com. "The biggest loss is the loss of historic information."

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, investigators recovered more than 9,000 relics, including bullets, buckles, cannonballs, breastplates and buttons when they caught up with Santo last year. Authorities also found a handwritten journal the man kept of his illegal excavation trips, which happened regularly between 2006 and 2010.

Union Army soldier's belt buckle. Unauthorized excavation may have disturbed a soldier's grave.

"The defendant's journal is a tell-all of his misconduct, identifying with a high degree of specification where he engaged in metal detecting/relic hunting and when and what he recovered," Assistant U.S. Attorney N. George Metcalf wrote in federal court papers.

"He even kept a running tally of the items he found from day to day on a yearly basis."

Blankenship said in one instance Santo wrote about discovering five buttons in one place, which suggests that a previously undiscovered body of a soldier had been buried there.

Santo pleaded guilty in December to two counts of damaging archaeological resources and one count of pillaging Petersburg National Battlefield. He is regarded as the park's most prolific relic thief.

"It's just heartbreaking," Julia Steele, an archaeologist and the battlefield's cultural resource manager told msnbc.com. Steele said Santo systematically pillaged several sites to the point that the scene made her physically ill.

With TV shows such as the recently launched "American Digger," Steele said pop culture tends to glorify relic hunting. Many people see it as a "treasure hunt," she said.

Petersburg Battlefield, April 1865.

Santo's attorney described him in court papers as a recovering alcoholic afflicted with an anxiety disorder that prevents him from working or socializing with people. Santo lived with his girlfriend in a house about?two miles from the battlefield park.

"His anxiety prevents him from going into stores and restaurants and prevents him from working, unless it is a job he can do with a friend," court papers read. "As a result of his disorder, he rarely leaves his home, and prior to his arrest in this matter, his walks and metal detecting in the National Battlefield with his dog was his only outlet."

Santo's attorney said her client never sold anything he recovered, according to court papers, but prosecutors said Santo must have found a way to make money from his exploits. Subpoenas of online auction houses and local retailers did not uncover any evidence, The Progress-Index reported.

Blankenship said relic hunters are secretive and their transactions rarely leave a paper trail. "This guy was in it for profit," he said.

Hidden cameras captured Santo in the act, and Blankenship hopes more will be installed throughout the park. He said law enforcement officers sometimes organize stakeouts, but relic hunters tend to hide in the harder to monitor wooden areas. Blankenship says Santo's acts were "thievery and robbery" and hopes his sentence sends a strong message to other relic hunters.

The Importance of Skincare & Shinto Clinical Smooth Answer Product

by Tech.Food.Life. on March 23, 2012

Skincare is important to me. I?ve been caring for my skin since I was a teenager. I?ve been removing my makeup daily and washing my face with skin cleaners. I?ve also been taking measures to protect my skin against sun damage, dryness and wrinkles by purchasing products that allow my skin to breathe.

I?ve tried several over the counter products, but they don?t work well with my sensitive skin. For the past 20 years I?ve been using department store facial beauty products. They are usually more expensive, but I have seen the best results from high-end products versus over the counter products.

I recently had the opportunity to test the??Shinto Clinical by Kimora Lee Simmoms ?Smooth Answer?skin care product. I was very impressed by the ease of use of their website and the detailed information provided on their product line. ?I was also very intrigued to see that the products were featured in several magazines. ?You can read more about my shopping experience here.

20120323-023224.jpg

The Shinto Smooth Answer product is a moisture cream filled with anti-aging ingredients. According to the product description, the product gives your skin a smooth dewy appearance and instantly moisturizes, hydrates and nourishes the skin. ? The product has been clinically proven to bind moisture directly to the skin to provide a firming and tightening feeling to the skin.

I removed my makeup and applied the product as soon as the package arrived and immediately felt the results. Smooth Answers hydrated my skin and made it feel soft. It also has a wonderful light fragrance. I tested the product day and night and everytime I used the product, I felt like I was at the spa.

20120323-023259.jpg

After testing the product, I would recommend this product. Shinto Smooth Answers is the first product I?ve tested that makes my skin feel soft instantly. ?Every time I use the product I felt like I was getting a facial at a resort. ? It also gave me a little bit of a glow. ? Question: Is skincare important to you? ?How has your skincare evolved from teenage years to today?

Do You See the GREEN in Golf Course Real Estate? Orlando, FL ...

Investors are looking for real estate bargains, and I?m sure that you are too!? Read a great article today in Businessweek, I think that anyone interested in BUYING real estate right now will see the value.

I happen to know of quite a few investment opportunities that would interest those of you that see this value in Central Florida?Bella Collina in Montverde, Bay Hill and Reunion in Orlando.

Read the article then call me or my team for more information on how you can get a slice of the GREEN!

Here is the article:? Looking for real estate bargains? Consider golf courses. Investors from Donald Trump to luxury homebuilder Toll Brothers?are wagering there?s money to be made buying them. Stand-alone 18-hole golf properties in the U.S. sold for a median price of $3 million in the first nine months of last year, down from $4.5 million in 2006, according to data from broker Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services. Prices slumped after lenders including the finance arm of General Electric?stopped providing money for building courses and investors in commercial mortgage-backed securities retreated amid losses on deals made at the height of the property bubble. ?Lack of financing is really causing a discount to value, and investors are taking advantage,? says Steven Ekovich?of Marcus & Millichap. ?Golf courses may never be as cheap as they are today.?

The sport?s popularity soared after Tiger Woods won the 1997 Masters Tournament at Georgia?s Augusta National Golf Club. In 2000, when Woods captured the U.S. Open in Pebble Beach, Calif., by a record 15 strokes, an unprecedented 400 courses were opened. Television ratings typically surge by as much as 50 percent when Woods is in contention to win a tournament, according to Nielsen figures. He hasn?t won a regular season PGA Tour event since September 2009, a span during which his career has been derailed by his admission to extramarital affairs and assorted injuries.

Woods?s fortunes aside, golf took a blow when the recession hit. The total number of rounds played in the U.S. annually has fallen more than 7 percent since 2006, according to research firm Golf Datatech. As a result, about 775 golf courses have closed. While new ones continue to open, the nationwide course count has declined by 355 since 2006, to about 16,000, according to the National Golf Foundation. Terry Vanek, an analyst at Marcus & Millichap, estimates that there are about 185 stand-alone golf courses on the market today?with asking prices of $320,000 to $15 million.

Toll Brothers, the largest U.S. luxury homebuilder, is buying private golf clubs until the residential real estate market improves, according to David Richey, president of Toll Golf, a division of the company. Toll plans to buy three golf properties in cash at ?distressed prices? of $3 million to $4 million by the end of this year, Richey says.

Peter Nanula, former chief executive officer of Arnold Palmer Golf Management, started Concert Golf Partners in 2010. He has as much as $50 million to buy golf properties that he intends to revamp and sell within five to seven years. Concert Golf made its first course purchase in July, when it bought Heathrow Country Club?s golf course and racquet club for $4.5 million. The club, in north Orlando, sold for $20 million in 1996, the Orlando Sentinel reported, citing Seminole County court records.

Trump is buying the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami out of bankruptcy for $150 million five years after Morgan Stanley?acquired it as part of the $6.7 billion purchase of CNL Hotels & Resorts. The resort features five courses on 800 acres, including the famed Blue Monster, and about 700 hotel rooms. ?They built too many courses during the Tiger boom, and now they?re closing and disappearing,? says Trump. ?At some point enough will disappear that golf will be a really good business.?

Banks lend again, but their customers are wary

(AP) ? Since the credit crisis of 2008, everyone has been waiting for the banks to start lending money again. It's finally happening, but there's a catch: Businesses are afraid to spend it.

Bank loans to businesses grew 10 percent last year after dropping 19 percent in 2009 and 9 percent in 2010, according to the Federal Reserve. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo confirmed the growth in their latest financial results.

But much of the loan growth comes from lines of credit, not traditional loans. And instead of tapping available credit to power up plants, open factories and hire people, businesses are waiting.

At the same time, they are hoarding cash. JPMorgan, the nation's largest bank, is holding a record $200 billion in business deposits, up 26 percent last year alone. Wells Fargo and Bank of America also say deposits from middle-market businesses have soared.

"Our business customers are feeling optimistic," says Perry Pelos, head of commercial banking for Wells Fargo. "But I'm not seeing any boom yet because they are still a little uneasy about the future."

Even successful business owners have found it difficult to adopt the easy confidence of the years before the deep and bruising recession. They want to see more improvement in the economy before they take great risks again.

Jon Schlegel, owner of a Colorado brunch restaurant called Snooze Eatery, says his customers are buying more Bloody Marys and mimosas to go with the popular and more expensive chilaquiles Benedict ? his take on eggs Benedict, stacked with steak and tortillas and topped with fresh salsa and cotija cheese.

He's noticed more out-of-town visitors in his restaurants on recent weekends than in the past couple of years. Yet Schlegel is careful about every expense. He pays for supplies and meets payroll with the restaurants' own cash flow rather than borrowing.

"I've got to watch my costs. Meat prices are rising, and coffee prices are going up. If I raise my prices, will people keep coming and can I keep growing?" Schlegel says.

Schlegel's hesitance is common among small and independent businesses that struggled mightily during the Great Recession. For many business owners, it has been an arduous climb back just to survive, and that's made many of them averse to risk.

Analysts are watching bank loan growth closely because it provides clues about whether companies are preparing to hire. Unemployment remains high at 8.3 percent, though it has fallen from its recession peak of 10 percent.

Bank loans play a vital role in powering what economists call a virtuous cycle. Banks lend to companies, which spend to open factories to create widgets. Plants mean jobs, which leads to more money in people's pockets to spend. It re-energizes the economy.

Small and midsize businesses depend on bank loans to grow far more than large corporations, which can pay for their plans by selling bonds or stock in the financial markets.

In February, H.J. Heinz Co., the giant food company best known for its ketchup, raised $300 million by selling five-year bonds at an interest rate of just 1.5 percent. IBM, Procter & Gamble and McDonald's have all raised hundreds of millions of dollars recently by selling bonds and paying record-low interest rates.

Small and midsize businesses blamed banks for making matters worse when the recession struck by pulling back credit dramatically, and for not helping during the economic recovery by making credit freely available.

For their part, banks say regulations passed since the financial crisis have made it difficult for them to lend because they have to set more cash aside to cushion themselves against future losses.

On a bank's books, a line of credit that a business can tap as needed counts the same as a traditional, lump-sum loan. While they don't break out the numbers, banks say businesses are opening lines of credit but skittish about drawing on them.

In conference calls with analysts and reporters, bank executives have said recently that what they call the loan utilization rate, the percentage of available credit that businesses use, is unusually low. They do not release that number.

For instance, JPMorgan Chase said its loans to middle-market businesses grew 17 percent in the last three months of 2011, the sixth consecutive quarter of loan growth. But CEO Jamie Dimon warned analysts in January clients were still waiting to use the money.

"It's not utilization. It's new lines of credit for the most part," he said.

The amount of loans to middle-market businesses at Wells Fargo grew 15 percent in the last three months of 2011 from the same period a year earlier, to about $265 billion. But Wells executives, too, report that not enough of the money is being used.

Most of Chase's customers are like Schlegel: They seem to have enough money to run their businesses. That they are opening lines of credit in large numbers is a sign that they want to be prepared if there is a pickup in in demand.

For Schlegel, demand is just starting to creep back. After the success of his four brunch restaurants, he took out two loans late last year from JPMorgan Chase to open his fifth and sixth restaurants ? one in Colorado another in San Diego, his first out of state.

The two new restaurants allowed him to hire about 80 employees. But Schlegel is as skittish as the day he opened his first restaurant in 2006.

Scouting for new restaurant locations in 2011 proved more difficult than in 2010 and in 2009 because there were fewer spaces available and they were more expensive.

"I guess that's a favorable sign of an improving economy," says Schlegel. "I'm worried about how much we will be able to expand, and how easily I will be able to get my next loan."

Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints Head Coach, Suspended One Year for Bounty-Gate

The NFL has suspended New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton for one year without pay.

The harsh penalty comes down a few weeks after it was revealed that Payton's team conducted its own "bounty" program on defense in 2009, as players pooled their own money and awarded one another for leveling such fierce, often illegal hits that opponents would be carted off the field.

The Saints also lost two second round draft picks and Gregg Williams, the defensive coordinator at the time, has been suspended indefinitely from his new job with the Rams.

Sean Payton

Said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement:

"We are all accountable and responsible for player health and safety and the integrity of the game. We will not tolerate conduct or a culture that undermines those priorities. No one is above the game or the rules that govern it. Respect for the game and the people who participate in it will not be compromised."

What do you think of Payton's punishment?

PFT: Dolphins fans stage Jeff Ireland protest

Josh Johnson PicGetty Images

2012 NFL free agency started out exceptionally strong at wide receiver and cornerback. We?re only seven days into the signing period, and those positions have been decapitated by first-week signings, many of the big-money variety.

The PFT Hot 100 is a good tool for tracking top free agent deals. We?re going to take a more in-depth look here at ten intriguing players that remain unsigned as of Tuesday evening.

1. Quarterback Josh Johnson ? Johnson is still developing after four seasons, but he can power the football downfield with a deceptively strong arm and is a dynamic athlete with blazing straight-line speed. Even if the Niners re-sign Alex Smith, Johnson would make sense as competition for projected No. 2 quarterback Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco.

2. Tight end Jacob Tamme ? Tamme has been largely underutilized as Dallas Clark?s backup in Indianapolis, but he is a weapon in the passing game. When Clark went down with an arm injury in 2010, Tamme piled up 67 catches for 631 yards and four touchdowns, and the Colts? offense didn?t miss a beat. Don?t be surprised if Peyton Manning lobbies harder for Tamme than Clark in Denver. Tamme also has 20 special teams tackles over the past three seasons.

3. Linebacker Manny Lawson ? The 22nd pick in the 2006 draft, Lawson has disappointed as an NFL pass rusher with 16 sacks through six seasons. Lawson is a freak athlete at 6-foot-5, 240 with low-4.4 speed and a 40-inch vertical, however, and he?s wicked smart (43 Wonderlic score). Lawson can set the edge against the run and has always been effective in coverage. With experience in both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes, Lawson should be generating more interest than he has so far.

4. Receiver Early Doucet ? A tough tackle in the slot, Doucet set career highs in catches (54), yards (689), and touchdowns (five) last season amid consistently poor quarterback play in Arizona. The 26-year-old isn?t going to stretch defenses vertically, but Doucet is a serviceable third wideout with plus run-after-catch skills.

5. Defensive tackle Derek Landri ? Landri is an undersized gap shooter at 6-foot-2, 290, but he?s been incredibly productive whenever given extended playing-time opportunities. While Landri lacks ?scheme versatility? in that he appeals only to 4-3 teams, he can get after the passer from the interior and plays with a relentless motor.

6.?Defensive end Dave Tollefson ? Like Landri, Tollefson is a situational player but tends to capitalize when he sees action. Tollefson racked up five sacks in 2011 despite playing fourth fiddle behind Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck, and Osi Umenyiora. NFL teams won?t view Tollefson as a starter, but he?s a workmanlike lineman with special teams value.

7. Offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz ? Schwartz has visited the Vikings and 49ers so far in free agency. While a hip injury knocked him out for all of the 2011 season, Schwartz was a 16-game starter for Carolina in 2010. He can play right guard and right tackle, and has experience in both zone-blocking and power-running schemes.

8. Running back Justin Forsett ? Forsett is a pint-sized scatback at 5-foot-9, 198, but he excels in the passing game and has averaged 4.63 yards per career carry. The Raiders make sense as a landing spot if Forsett?s price tag is reasonable. New Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Knapp ran the Seahawks? offense during Forsett?s career-best 2009 season.

9. Safety Reggie Smith ? Smith was ticketed for San Francisco?s starting free safety job last year before Dashon Goldson surprisingly returned on a one-year deal two weeks into training camp. Smith played cornerback in college and offers plus size at 6-foot-1, 200. He can also effectively cover kickoffs and punts.

10. Fullback Tony Fiammetta ? The Cowboys didn?t tender Fiammetta in restricted free agency, moving forward with Lawrence Vickers instead. DeMarco Murray was noticeably more productive when Fiammetta was healthy during the 2011 season, however. The 25-year-old is also a willing special teamer.
